The Machame Route, which approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southwest, is the second most popular Kilimanjaro route. Because it is more challenging than the “Coca-Cola” (Marangu) route due to its longer and steeper treks as well as the absence of overnight shelters along the way, it is also known as the “Whiskey Route Kilimanjaro.”

The route begins on the mountain’s southwest slope and takes roughly six days to complete. But it is advised that climbers take seven days to complete the route since one day should be used to acclimatize to the altitude for safety and to improve the chances of summit success.

Climbers will sleep in tents that will be erected at specified campsites. There are two ways for hikers to go to Uhuru Peak. Most hikers follow the lengthier Barafu Trail, which provides a stunning view of the Rebmann Glacier. The other route is the Western Breach Route, which is more thrilling because it passes via Lava Tower and the Arrow Glacier.

Stunning scenery and amazing diversity:

The path begins in a verdant jungle, then passes through several moorlands before reaching Shira, an arid and dusty plateau. After climbing to Uhuru Peak, which is in the Arctic temperature range, hikers must descend the difficult Mweka Route, which passes between a lowland forest and a dry alpine desert. This is the route to choose if you are okay with hiking in a larger group and want a more challenging and interesting journey up the mountain.
